Painful lymph nodes - not swollen

by johnno22, May 17, 2009 12:21PM
Hi All

I have had painful lymph nodes under my jaw and infront of my ears both sides for about a week,
Also feel some discomfort under armpits.

I cannot locate any swollen glands.  I have been to the doctor and he didnt know what was wrong.
I have been regularly monitoring my temperature, which is normal.

The pain is a dull ache, and I feel throbbing and pulsating in the nodes under my jaw.

Today I have a very sore left side of neck, I dont know if it is more lymph pain or muscle pull. But very sore.

What should I do?  Doctor can't help me and the pain is still there after a week.

I have been very stressed and had anxiety all week, and this isn;t helping me calm down.  I dont know if this lymph pain can be associated with stress??

I had the same thing about 6 years ago, which I put down to stress at the time, but it only lasted a few days back then,.

P.S.no other symptoms, no colds, cuts etc.

If your fever increases 100.5 or more and you start getting bruises, getting short of breath, a lot of frequent infections like influenza, throat infections, ear infections, etc then go to the ER.

Leukemia and Lymphoma are easily diagnosed with a Complete blood count, chest x-ray, Bone marrow aspirate, biopsy (Leukemia only), lymph node biopsy (Lymphoma).

CT-Scans & MRI are useful.

In leukemia the white blood cells increase or decrease dramatically so do RBC (Decrease) and Plateletes (Decrease) all shown in the CBC (Complete blood count)

The bone marrow aspirate will conclude and therefor determine what kind of leukemia it is, or if you have any.

Kinda the same with leukemia on blood work but the x-rays ct-scans, or MRI's should pick it up.

Finally the Lymph node biopsy. will determine if you have the disease so you see it's easily diagnosed but treatment is complicated but usually chemotherapy, radiation, steriods, and Stem Cell and Bone Marrow transplants.

Hi, I'm not an expert but IIRC lymphoma tumors are usually not painful, but swollen glands from an infection can very well be. Not all infections cause fever. Have you inspected your gums/teeth? Maybe the stress is causing you to clench your jaw and you might have even cracked a tooth or something.
