What's wrong with me

Here is my situation: I have had elevated WBC consistenly for the past 3 years. During the last couple of months I have been experiencing extreme fatigue, night sweats, hair loss, dizziness, intense headaches and facial numbness. My WBC is 13.7 which increased from 12.6 in one week. and my granulocytes are elevated as well. I don't have a cold or flu, and I'm not pregnant., nothing grew in my blood culture. I would like to know what is causing this and what will it take for me to get better.

It seems you need to discuss each of these problems with a physician.

I’m assuming you’re 26 years old (born 1980 so lcartergirl80), if so the WBC is not alarmingly high, at the least it may only be a stress response. The WBC is the first item you mentioned though it may be the least of your problems. If you have been monitoring the WBC for the last 3 years – the uncertainty of what is causing this may be making you anxious. And hence it never returns to normal. Most of the other symptoms may be stress-related as well.

The fatigue would have to be correlated to your usual day, job schedules, sleeping hours., interpersonal relationships, risks for depression.

The night sweats you have to correlate if other people in the house generally experience the same thing, whether or not you are also losing weight, your diet &exercise habits, presence of palpitations not associated with vigorous activity, your bowel movement frequency.

Headaches, dizziness, and facial numbness need to be evaluated as to known triggers, body positions, light/darkness, time of day, areas of the head/face involved, daily activities limited by these symptoms.

Let me reiterate the need to discuss all these and make a plan to devise a solution for each with your doctor. Let me also say that you shouldn’t put too much emphasis on abnormal tests. Bear in mind these are all subject to the power of statistics. If an Olympic athlete underwent 20 tests, chances are – one will be abnormal.
