18 month old with high Alkaline Phosphatase levels

Why would an 18 month old have a high Alkaline Phosphataste level? What could this mean, and what test should I have done?

Thank you

Hello mrsdpoulin,

Alkaline Phosphatase is an enzyme found in bone, liver and placenta. It is quite normal for children to have higher than normal ALP levels as the bones are growing.

If you are worried, I'd go get some more tests, such as a CRP (c-reactive protein) test, which tests for inflammation, as does an ESR test, as well as getting a full blood picture done to give a clearer indication.

Hope this helps :)
