3 weeks lumbar, linguinar ache

Hello I am a 20 year old male and would like to report a discomfort in the liver area that started 3 days after a particularly intense night out; at the end of the first week I could feel it being swollen and I also had mild pain that extended to the linguinal region. The swelling never got to the point of being visible but my doctor could feel an enlarged gallbladder. The swelling sensation started to go away on the second week, at which point I had an ultrasound and blood tests that returned normal values. I drank large amounts of water due to persistent thirst so the urine was always very clear. It is now the third week and the ache and discomfort are stable, I am also eating normally since I did not notice any appetite loss. The doctor is certain it was an air bubble in the intestine or that the gallbladder simply emptied by itself. Here are the values

GAMMA GT 26 UI/L
AST (SGOT) 25 UI/L
ALT (SGPT) 30 UI/L
SERUM UREA 29.0 MG/100ML
SERUM CREATININE 0.95 MG/100ML
URINE BILIARY PIGMENTS ABSENT
UROBILINOGEN ABSENT
URINE COLOR PALE YELLOW, CLEAR

is it possible for a liver intoxication to go away like this? Right now I feel like someone kicked me below the liver and it burns where my gallbladder had swollen. Thanks

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Since your liver function tests and imaging studies are normal, it's unlikely that the pain is due to liver or gall bladder disorders. The other causes could be gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and GERD. Disorders of the colon could also cause pain. Kidney disorders too produce colicky and sharp pain. Sometimes anxiety with flatulence can cause this pain. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hi, thank you for your reply!

While I am having some pain in the colon area, I have also suffered from GERD and sometimes gastritis for the last few years and this pain is quite dull and "tingly". This week I am experiencing pain under my right armpit and pectoral, and some headaches. I would like to know if it is advisable to test serum bilirubin and prothrombin time, and if it is possible that taking MDMA last month could have caused my problem. thanks again

Hello and hope you are doing well.

If the pain is in the right arm pit and pectoral region it is unlikely to be due to liver problems. From the symptoms you have given me, the most probable cause for your pain could be cervical spondylosis or cervical muscle strain due to your working conditions. A neurological examination by your primary care physician may confirm this. He may then ask for blood test, an x ray and if needed an MRI to find out what is causing the compression. This is usually treated conservatively (without surgery) with physiotherapy, traction and cervical collars. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Good day to you,

Every time drink some alcoholic beverage I have increased abdominal pain and right side swelling for some days; I have not been able to reproduce this condition with orange juice or any other kind of drink, although fried chicken does give me the same symptoms. My doctor says it would be unprofessional to prescribe another blood test and advises to take anti spastics. Thank you for your interest!

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Direct bilirubin is on the higher side of normal. The other causes for the pain like GERD or peptic ulcer disease need to be considered. In the meantime you could follow certain precautions. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Avoid drugs like paracetomol and sedatives. Get vaccinated for hepatitis A and B. Take a good protein diet.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
