BILE LEAK IN 1997...

Following the removal of my gall bladded i then had a major bile leak for 5 days! i was ignored as i begged for help during these 5 days ( my pain was put down to my age i was 21) on the 5th day in the middle of the night ( after an evening of excruciating agony) i basically just gave up. Then at some point a nurse came to take my blood pressure (to this day i dont know why as they had stopped doing this, but in my eyes she saved my life) only to notice i was very ill and in what they said was an unconcious state. All i can remember is being stuck with needles and alot of shouting going on, the next i knew was more unbearable pain with someone saying she needs to go to i.c.u. at this point i had been opened all the way from my ribs to the lowest part of my tummy, i had tubes in my nose and throat and basically everywhere. Since this has happened not one single person said exactly what had gone wrong, and when i tried to find out my self they said it was because i was over weight! ( i was 10 stone!!!) hardly over weight now was i............ it was too traumatic to push anymore but now even almost 12 years later i am suffering still with pain and various other problems i. e excess bile and pain every day which has been getting worse as time has gone on my whole health has deteriorated since this operation and im looking for answers as to why? can you please help xxxx

I tried the health council ( which was the advice i was given by a hospital porter) they wrote a letter on my behalf asking why this had happened, and their response was that i was over weight! ( at 10 stone) as you can imagine i was young and i should have asked more and did something more, but at that time i really didnt know what to do. I have tried to get more info since and one thing i did find is that my medical records have some how disappeared?!?!?!? i wont let this go though, as its totally ruling my life i have 4 kids to think of they have missed out on so much due to my on going problems. Thanx for replying sir_ osis xxxxxxxxxxx

I gather malpractice suits arent common where you live???  I'm not necessarily for or agaianst (i think there are gross abuses on both sides of the issue) BUT, If you were "done wrong" by someones incompetence or negligence - and have a permanent issue as a result, well, then thats where litigation is something to consider..
