Can anyone please help me understand this...

I had a CT scan and the reported stated as following:

Tiny hypodensities are seen within the dome of the liver (image 8,9) findings which cannot be further characterized without IV contrast...

I am allergic to contrast dye... What should I do?  Do I need to see a specialist for this or my PCP?

What can this mean?

Thank you for your advise.  I did forward the results to my PCP yesterday and will go see him soon for a follow up on this.

Short history:  Lupus, Sjrogens, Asthma, Hypothyroid...History of pulups in colon and benign fatty tumors (one in breast and one on my hip).....

Sister has breast cancer and there is cancer history in my maternal side....

Thanks again for your advise Mike...

From what I know it could be fatty infiltration, cysts or possibly a malignancy. I'm not a doctor and I know nothing about your history or lifestyle but I think these things usually turn out to be fatty infiltrations. But, of course, I very well could be wrong about that.
I would definitely follow up with my PCP and get a professional opinion. Your doctor may refer you to a gastroenterologist or a hepatologist or just order follow up studies. There are ways to test patients with an IVP dye allergy. I am allergic to IVP dye and I have taken Prednisone and Benadryl prior to procedures and I have not had any reaction.
I believe there are newer contrast dyes that have significantly fewer reactions than the older iodine based contrast material. Regardless, if only for your peace of mind you should follow up with someone - your PCP or another specialist.
Good luck,
Mike
