Can the parasite Blastocystis Hominis cause liver/gall bladder pain?

Can the parasite Blastocystis Hominis cause liver/gall bladder pain?
I recently found that I am infected with B. Hominis parasite after gradually getting worse and worse gastrointestinal problems since November of 2007 to present.
For the last few weeks I have had an increasing pain in my right under my rib cage area, and some pain in my back as well.  My acupuncturist thinks it is my liver, but when I visited my MD for the GI probs (diarhea, vomit, nausea, dizziness) he told me to take prilosec and we did test for H. Pylori (negative) and took stool samples.  A week later he found the B. Hominis, and now I am on my second day of Metronidazole.
Anybody have some thoughts on this?  I am worried about my liver/gall bladder.
Also, my stool darkens in color when I eat a very fatty meal, which my acupuncturist showed great concern to.

Hello, have same symptoms as yourself.  Have had blasto for approx. 1 year that I know of.  All my liver function tests, ultra sounds etc. come back normal. Although I have a constant pain in right upper quadrant of abdomen.  Metronidazole treatment has not helped.  Having the occasional glass of wine takes me weeks to recover.  My digestive system has gone ballistic. I follow a good diet with lots of vegies, fruit, little dairy and meat only twice a week. Low Sugar, Low Salt.  Lots of probiotics, vitamin supplements and fresh juicing. I do enjoy coffee.  Which seems to be my only treat, as well as energy burst these days.  I have some good days, where I feel 8/10, but mostly I feel 3/10.  I just count the hours before I can get to bed and rest, as I have a constant feeling of malaise and exhaustion. I also drink wormwood tea for parasite.  Good Luck.

Hi there, I am a mother of 5 children in australia. we did stool samples for all of them and four outta five came back positive to blasto. I just finished the 10 days of flagl with them, and am about to find out how many of them we got the bug out of. Its scary for me because it only takes one to still have it and being children just go through them all again. they have been pooing green and pale greeny yellow colour aswell. also once had white poo. which is scaring me so much. im so upset as i have no idea the poor bubs had it for. As the gp i did try to talk to kept telling me that it is normal for children to poo alot etc. Now i have changed to another gp he tested them and found the parasite was present. Im sick of gps that think they know more than you and look at your queeries as though you are stupid. If we had found this long ago things would not be so bad. Im exited to see how many dont have it. And am also happy i have found a new doctor willing to listen.I just pray that this bug leaves my family and my children dont have any other problems from this parasite

I got sick with B hominis in Nov 2007 and got very bad as well. Lost about 25lbs, extreme nausea (always worse in morning), dry mouth, diarrhea, chills with no fever etc...I got dehydrated and landed in emerg 3 times. After 2 months, took metronidazole and diarrhea went away but still had bad nausea and started to develop other symptoms-chest pain (left and right sided) and severe back pain. They did all kinds of tests and finally a HIDA scan showed that my gallbladder had 0% ejection fraction (basically was not working). They scheduled me for surgery and when it was taken out, found no signs of disease or stones, just a bit of sludge built up from it not working.

Now the question remains-which came first, the chicken or the egg? Did the blasto cause the gallbladder probs or vise versa? I am almost completely convinced that the blasto caused all of it-my internist even agreed that sometimes parasites like that can harbour in the gallbladder and that is why they are hard to eradicate. After they took out the gallbladder, the chest and back pain almost immediately subsided;however, I now have new probs due to removal of it (minor compared to pain i had though).

In any case, although all tests show that blasto is gone, I still have some symptoms that were there from day 1-morning nausea, violent reaction to alcohol, caffeine or fatty pasta (always extreme nausea at 4am and takes me a few days to get back to normal). My internist thinks it's a continued immune response to the infection as all tests for blasto have come back negative; however, I am worried I may still have it as I have seen on other sites that is is difficult to detect with normal stool samples.
