I just want to get back to the original question. Can you be born with a weak liver.. Meaning.. a liver which becomes congested easily, maybe does not handle the above functions optimally etc.. I have heard that liver issues can be passed down.. I'm specifically interested in what can be inherited?
There are three principle indicators wrt your liver's health. Liver enzymes are the numbers most people are familiar with: Alt, Ast and Alp. But your liver does many things including synthesis and excretory functions. It is these functions that tell you how your liver is really doing, health wise.
Your liver enzymes simply let you know if your liver is troubled, within the last several days. They do not indicate your liver's overall health. It is the synthesis and excretory functions that do that. So the numbers of interest are the: bilirubin, albumin, albumin/globulin ratio (A/G), platelet count, etc ... many levels to watch. This is why you need a good liver doctor (hepatologist) to monitor things for you.
Keep in touch with us and let us know if you have any unusual imaging or blood work. We maybe able to help you understand what the implications are. Take care and be well.
Bascially there's a history of heavy drinkers in my family (not me) but my father and his father etc. Since young I seem to have trouble losing weight unless I eat tiny meals (i have to space things out) and I have all the brain fog and energy issues associated with liver issues. It's definitely my liver.
Because these symptoms have been part of my life since young I'm trying to understand whether there may have been something wrong with my liver since birth. No blood test will pick this up, but knowing myself will greatly enhance my ability to maintain a healthy weight rather than guessing.
Inability to process too much blood at once basically. Maybe a low threshold between storing fat and actually processing blood.
Can you describe wGat you mean by a weak liver? Certainly there are many livwr diseases that one can be born with, etc.
