Elevated AFP levels

Hi,
My husband had a routine physical done and an AFP level was done. It came back at 16.5. His doctor referred him to a GI doctor and an EGD was done (hiatal hernia, gastritis), other labs (no cirrhosis, no hep B or C, liver functions wnl), US RUQ with CT to follow. Liver tumor noted, CT guided bx (hemiangioma with abnormal color). Now tomorrow MRI of abdomen. What else could be causing this and was else could be done or could possibly be being missed? Thanks!

afp can be elevated with any elevation in liver chemistry tests.  Although clearly it can be elevated with HCC, it can also be elevated in testicular and germ cell tumors.
