Elevated ALT / SGPT Level (81 u/l). Please help...

Hi,

I have posted messages on other boards, but had not success. Please see messages previously posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Message 1:

Hi,

About 4 years ago, I went onto Roacutene for Acne, while I was on it, I had a blood test to test my liver and my liver function was at 75, so I decided to come of the roacutene.

Today, I have been to the hospital to start back on the roacutene, but they do not want to put me on it as my liver functio test was at 81.

Does anyone know what this could mean? If it was high four years ago and is slightly higher now I wouldn't have thought it was too serious. My GP is going to investigate.

Regards,

Gareth.

P.S. It must not have been the roacutene which caused this.

Message 2:-

Thanks to everyone for there advise, just to provide you with some further information:-

* I am currently not on Roaccutene, but use Benzyol Peroxide lotion.
* I have been prescribed a 'minocin' topical lotion for my acne as the doctor would not let me go on Roaccutene due to my liver result.
* I am 27, have had acne since I was 15 and although it has got a lot better, it still has not fully cleared (on my back), whitehead problems are my maine thing.
*I eat pretty healthy, although I binge a lot on chocolate. I go out and get 'smashed' once every 2/3 months. I am also about 2st overweight!

I have just got a copy of my Liver Function Test results, which read:-

Serum THS level 2.17 mu/l (0.30-4.50)
Urea and electrolytes
Serum Sodium 139 mmol/l (133-146)
Serum potassium 4.6 mmol/l (3.5-5.3)
Serum creatine 71 umol/l (64-100)
Liver Function Test
Serum total bilirubin level 8 umol/l (0-17)
Serum alkaline phosphatase 75 u/l (40-117)
ALT/SGPT Serum level 81 u/l (11-47) HIGH

The latter one looks the only 'high' one, as indicated.

Can anyone advise me further on this?

Regards,

Gareth.

Could anyone advise what food or supliments I should take to lower it? Could it really be Hepatitis C- and will my wife now have it???

Thanks.
