Elevated AST

Elevated AST

I had an ALT/AST test & my AST was elevated @ 43 (range 13-35).  My ALT was 35 (top of the range).  I know a little bit about this testing and having an elevated reading could be liver damage.  I am wondering what medications could possilbe effect this test, if any.  I am also wondering if I should be very concerned with my results.  Can anyone offer any advise?

Make sure your doc does a hep panel for hep A. B and C - though it may not be that at all....

And yes meds can also increase enzymes
http://www.clinlabnavigator.com/Tests/AspartateAminotransferase.html

excerpt:

"Many medications can increase AST levels. The most common drugs are: acetaminophen, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, nicotinic acid, isoniazid, sulfonamides, erythromycin, griseofulvin, and fluconazole."

Take care,
