Elevated GGT

by WPguy, Nov 05, 2009 02:09PM
I have elevated GGT 130 and elevated LDL. Every other test came back great.

About 12 years ago I had my gallbladder removed. Can this lead to elevated levels. If not what else?

Elevation in GGT levels may be due to liver disease, but it may be also due to alcohol consumption, even small amounts of alcohol the night before the test can cause the results to be elevated. Other causes for elevated GGT are use of prescription and non-prescription drugs anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), lipid-lowering drugs, antibiotics, seizure control medications, antidepressants. If none of the above apply to you, then you may have a blockage in your bile ducts. Consult with your physician on your individual case.

Take care,

Bob
