Fatty Liver Disease - nonalcoholic

I am posting a question in hopes of getting some advice.  About 6-8 years ago when I was undergoing an ultrasound for an unrelated health issue, I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease (the nonalcoholic type).  My doctor hasn't requested any further testing and hasn't had me follow up on the fatty liver disease.  On Monday of this week I was in the ER.  I had tightness in my chest, my blood pressure was elevated at 150/96, pulse of 106 (this is very high for me - usually my blood pressure is 115/60, pulse between 65-70).  My blood pressure while I was in the ER would go from high to low and back to high along with my pulse as well.  I wasn't anxious or anything like that that could have caused my blood pressure to go high.  My other symptoms were tightness in my chest (which I am still experiencing), very, very tired almost to the point of passing out at times, and sometimes after eating and depending on what I eat, my abdomen will be in so much pain I have to curl up and try to get it to subside which it usually doesn't sometimes for 1-2 hours if not longer.

When I was in the ER on Monday they ran blood work and I notice that some of my results are listed as low or high.  The blood work results listed as low or high are below:

Platelet Count = 330 K/mm3 (High) (Reference range 133-315)
Lymphocytes # (Auto) = 3.3 K/mm3  (High) (Reference range 0.9-2.9)
Chloride Level = 112 mEq/L (High) (Reference range 98-107)
Anon Gap = 6.0 (Low) (Reference range 7.0-16.0)
Glucose Level 109 mg/dL (High) (Reference Range 70-104)
Myglobin 60 Minute 24 ng/mL (Low) (Reference Range 25-58)
Total Protein 5.7 g,/dL (Low) (Reference Range 6.4-8.3)
Albumin 3.4 gm/dL (Low)  (Reference Range 3.5-5.2)

On my urinalysis the below results were given to me:

Blood, Urine  Small A
Leukocyte Esterase, Urine  Large A
WBC, Urine 31 (high (Reference range 0-5)
RBC, Urine 5 (high) (Reference range 0-1)
Epithelial Cells, Urine@ 7 (high) (Reference Range 0-5)
Bacteria,Urine  2+ A
Urine Culture Screen@  Positive screen.  Culture to be done.

I failed to tell the ER that I was diagnosed a long time ago with Fatty Liver Disease and I am starting to think that something may be changing with my liver and that disease that could be causing me the symptoms that I'm having.  The ER told me to follow up with my primary doctor and to have them order a stress test.  I called my doctor and they told me to go back to the ER and that they wouldn't order me a stress test.  I am also thinking that I probably need to have another ultrasound done to check my liver.

Any medical advice or help on this would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Recently I've been helping a friend who has fatty liver disease. I've noticed that many doctors don't take this condition seriously enough. Because no or inadequate treatment is recommended, the liver suffers even more.

I hope that you are able to get a sonogram. It should be easy to justify the test as a follow-up the diagnosis made 6-8 years ago. Please do what you can to prevent your fatty liver condition from progressing.

If you search online "diet fatty liver naturopath" you'll get some good suggestions for how to:
(1) minimize / eliminate from your diet & environment substances that stress the liver.
(2) eat specific foods & supplements to help the liver heal.

I've found that the traditional doctors won't mention things like:
- women should check for choline deficiency
- make sure Vitamin D adequate
- take antioxidants
- test for alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency

Good luck to you.

It would seem that you were or are dealing with a renal/urinary tract infection of some sort. Your Lymphocytes are slightly elevated along with quite a few WBC's in your urine analysis, bacteria 2+ with a culture pending. I assume that your liver numbers were normal since you haven't listed them. Your Albumin level is a little on the low side but this can be caused by a malnutrition issue.

Certainly following up with your doctor makes sense. But your symptoms and numbers seem to be pointing towards a urinary tract infection, and nothing really to indicate that your liver isn't happy. The Epithelial Cells are likely just dead skin cells, which is typical.

We would be more than happy to help you with assessing your liver's health. But we'd need some blood work, past and present, to help us do so. Any ultrasound work as well?

Let us know how your next doctor's visit works out for you. Be well.
