Fatty liver with enlarged spleen

Fatty liver with enlarged spleen

I just received diagnosis of fatty liver.  An ultrasound showed an enlarged spleen.  My red blood count is low and my iron level is low.  The liver panels all came back below normal.  I am severly overweight, but have no health problems other than this.  I am currently experiencing nausea, headahce, extreme fatigue and pain across my shoulder blades and in some joints along with pain in my left and right sides that can be very sharp and happen sporadically.  This has been going on for the past month.  My Gall Bladder was removed 8 months ago.  Can these symptoms be explained by the current things that are going on?  Also, does the diagnosis of an enlarged spleen coincide with the diagnosis of a fatty liver?  I am not a drinker and I eat well balanced meals.  The Gastro doctor is too busy to answer my questions and has simply said call your regular physician.  I have an appointment with the gastro doctor in 4 weeks to discuss the aforementioned testing results.  I do not (and cannot ) want to wait that long.  I am also concerned that he is too busy to answer my questions and address my concerns.  Thank You!

You have been diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease and confess to being severely overweight! Um, I suggest that your 'healthy diet' should be reviewed by a dietician to determine how healthy it is in the light of your diagnosis.

An enlarged spleen can be a direct result of liver issues. The spleen will return to normal after the underlying condition is taken care of. In severe cases the spleen can be removed as most of its functions get taken over by the liver. Removing the spleen does however leave the patient with a greater exposure to infection.

Your Gastro doc is probably correct to refer you back to your regular doc, particularly if the problem is caused by being overweight.
