Hepatic Adenoma

Hi i am a 28 year old female. I went for a routine ultrasound on friday and they found a 4cm lesion on my liver. I am scheduled for a contrast ct scan on tuesday to see what exactly it is. I have been on the birthcontrol pill for over 10 years. I briefly went off it to get pregnant and after pregnancy started it again. Im not a big drinker and my blood tests show normal for liver function and total blood count also normal. I am scared to death that this is liver cancer. Dr said it may be a hepatic adenoma from the birth control pill. Anyone have any info or advice to help put my mind at ease?

Hi there! I had to have an mri with contrast instead of the ct with contrast due to my previous reactions to the contrast dye. The dr that does the write up will only be back next week so i will only get my mri results then. Still very worried and stressed. Am hoping it is not cancer but rather something benign that can be removed. Will update on my mri results as well as surgeon appointment.

Hi Olena.  Sorry you find yourself in this forum with unanswered questions.  I'm not a Dr, but can perhaps help you find some answers. When you are diagnosed with an issue, the waiting and wondering period is the hardest part.  Once you find out exactly what's going on it become easy to make decisions and to know how to further proceed.
Adenomas of the liver are often related to birth control pills or HRT.  They can typically do a wait and watch period or surgically remove them depending on their location.  I actually had an adenoma that was found in my Breast, had it removed, and no further problems.  In the liver it can get a little more tricky so the location is important.  As far as malignancy it's my understanding that
8-13% of these adenomas can create an environment for malignancy so removing them if possible may be an option.
If your in the mood to read further, go to the top of this page and you will find a search bar on the right.  Type in Hepatic Adenoma and literally there are thousands of story's of others going thru the same thing.  Some of the replies are from Drs and with those you will see an orange looking cross symbol next to their name.  You are not alone with this diagnosis and many others on this site have successfully cured this disease.
Good Luck tomorrow on your CT Scan.  Please let us know how things work out for you. In my opinion this does not appear to be life threatening but more of a big inconvience and doable in my book.
Best to you
.....Kim
