High AST & ALT

High AST & ALT

I am a 54 year old male, weigh 235 lb and taking 20 mg of Crestor each day and in general good health. I rarely drink alcohol except for special family events and holidays. I have just received a copy of my 11-19-09 blood results. My AST is 133, ALT is 452, Alkaline Phos is 202 and GGT is 206.  A previous blood test on 11-09-09  was sightly above normal (AST was 58 and ALT 92) so my doctor suggested I have another blood test. Prior to the
11-09-09 blood test my liver levels were within the normal range. Today I had another blood test and my doctor has instructed me to stop taking Crestor and return in two weeks for an follow up blood test.  Should I be concerned about these high AST & ATL levels? What could have caused the irregular high levels? If my blood test today indicate high AST & ALT liver levels, other abnormal comp metabolic panels, infection or desease, what are my next options?

Crestor (a statin) can cause elevated liver enzyme tests...which is why they do serial monitoring of your LFT's when they put you on statin therapy. Sounds like your elevation correlates with starting on the Crestor...hopefully you will see a declining trend in future LFT's, as you stop taking the Crestor.
