Lipoma on Liver

Hello, I just went for my second ultrasound ( MRI also done previously) and they told me they believe the lesion on my liver is a lipoma. From what I have read this is very rare. Will a biopsy be needed to confirm this? What other liver lesion can look like lipoma? from what I know lipoma's are fat cells.

Thank you for any input.

On a side note, they also stated my spleen was mildly inlarged.

warm regards,

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Depending upon the echogenicity, the borders and the shadows created a near correct diagnosis can be made with imaging studies. This is again correlated with the liver function tests. Others which can cause similar pictures are tumors, cysts and sometimes hemangiomas. If there is a doubt then a liver biopsy may be needed. Again a follow up may be mandatory to see for changes in the lesion.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
