I am reapplying for my licence and want to know what the limits are for the medical as do not want to fail the expensive test.
What are the liver function test levels that will pass the medical?
Normal values for liver function tests SGOT is 0-35, SGPT is 4-36, ALP is 30-120, Bilirubin is 0.3-1.0, Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) is 8-38. LDH is 45 - 90 U/L.
If you are worried about Alcoholic hepatitis, it resolves completely or improves greatly following 6-12 months of alcohol abstinence, and continued improvement may be observed for several years. There is a possibility that your enzymes may not return to absolute normal values if you get them checked within one month of alcohol abstinence.
Thanks for this, i had a recent blood test which was after having 11 days of abstinence and levels were alt 56 ast 48 serum gt 86.
Would i expect to see further improvements in a further 11 days? Making abstinence period of 3 weeks?
Good to see the levels improving. You can normalize your enzyme levels by by avoiding alcohol and treating diabetes, obesity and high triglyceride levels. Follow up with your doctor for this.
