MRI vs. CT Scan for lesions on liver

MRI vs. CT Scan for lesions on liver

In 2002 I was diagnosed using a CT Scan with contrast with a 6 cm low attenuation lesion in the dome of the right lobe of my liver consistent with a hemangioma.  There were several other smaller lesions exhibiting similar features.  Four tiny (under 5mm) lesions appeared to be cysts.

In July of 08 I had another CT Scan withOUT contrast for kidney stone (which came up negative even though the ultra sound showed a 5 mm stone???).  That scan showed a 2.4x 4.7 low-density lesion.

Now less than month later they want to zap (CT Scan with contrast) me again!  500 times more radiation than a chest x-ray.  Needless to say, not my first choice.

Question is, will a MRI show just as much or maybe even more than a possible cancer causing CT Scan?

Please specify your area of expertise (doctor, patient, etc.)

Thanks
