Yes in cases of viral hepititis that the body has cleared the liver enzymes do return to normal, but typical after a very significant increase, which your tests do not show. From what I have read your GGT can remain elevated even a week after alchohol consumption, it is different for everyone. Over the counter meds such as advil and motrin can also affect GGT, AST and ALT. I would plan to have the tests rerun in the near future as you are doing to calm your fears.
No meds.
The doc said that it is probable that it was due to alcohol but the day before i didn't drink any ... I will retest in a week just in case for hav, hbv, hcv and another liver panel test. I am worried cause even though the enzimes are in the normal ranges they are not balanced values. one is 29 the other 37, and i have read that after hbv acute infection the liver enzymes do tend to drop to normal levels again... GGT at 117 just got me worried so much cause other people i know drink as much as i do but their ggt is in the normal range...
thanks that you put interest to this
Your AST and ALT have returned to within normal range which is great, making viral hepititis very unlikely. Ast for your GGT, it is well known to be very sensitive to alcohol consumption as well as certain medications. Are your taking any meds presently? I would not get overly alarmed by this. I would cut out alcohol completely and ask the doc to retest you in three months.
Take care.
