Post transplant

My father was just informed that he needs a new liver. The social worker called me today to find out about his support system reguarding his transplant. I will be his number one supporter. However, I travel with my family for my husband's work. I have relatives in the area where he is getting treatment now. How long is the recovery post transplant? Do I need to have a residence near his current doctors in order to be his support system? Could I initially be his support system in the area near his doctors during and prior to the transplant, and then move him to the location where my family has a steady job to care for him during post op?

I have a friend who had a liver transplant, she is Crossroads on here.  She stayed with a friend to be near the hospital where she had her transplant.  At the same time a cousin came to help. I would think your Dad will need help a minimum of 2 to 3 months but I am just guessing.  I think the main thing they want to know is that he will have support during his recovery.
I hope all goes well,
