Question on End Stage Liver Disease

Question on End Stage Liver Disease

My dad had been diagnosed with Cirrhosis over 20 years ago. He is presently at "end stage", and this past Wednesday night had his ammonia level spike to over 1200. He did go into seizure early Thursday morning but came out of it. His blood count is presently 7.9, which for him isn't too bad, and his ammonia level has dropped to 300. The hospital is doing everything they possibly can to persuade us to stop the transfussions, etc. He is unresponsive at the present time. They are telling us that the blood transfussions are cruel on our part and can cause fluid build up in his lungs and he could drown. We are so confused. We don't want to hurt dad, but the hospital is throwing so many people at us trying to convince us to just let him die. He has been this sick before and always came out of it, although a little weaker each time, but was able to communicate etc...We just don't know what the right answer is anymore, and don't trust the "interns" that are giving us this information. Please help me understand. Thank you....Rick
