Swollen liver and spleen

Swollen liver and spleen

Last July(2008) I went into hospital to have a routine laporoscopy to remove an ovarian cyst that measured 10x11x9.
On removal the cyst ruptured and the contents fell inside my abdominal canvity, it was apparently cleaned out and i was given an injection of antibiotics, i went home the same day.
3 days later i was rushed to my local A&E department as my abdomen was twice the size and green smelly gunk was leaking from my laporoscopy sites.
I had scepticemia and perotinitus.
I was in hospital for 3 months on high dose IV antibiotics and was given blood.
It is now April 2009 and I am still on oral antibiotics-(amoxiclav 3xday), tramodol-(200mg slow release 2xday) for pain and pregabalin-(150mg 2x day) to stop stomach cramps/ spasms.
I had an ultrasound scan yesturday and was told that my liver and spleen are 3-4 times the size they should be.
After everything ive been through could this swelling just be due to all the medication ive been taking?

Wow, that is an unfortunate chain of events!  My heart goes out to you!

The drugs could be a contributor (or even the sole culprit) to your problem.  Best way to check hepatotoxicity of a drug is to google the drug by its trade name (and generic) and look at the known side effects.

Next, if you arent consulting with a hepatologist, you should be - especially with hepatomegally - splenomegally...as for the size - im puzzled.  If ones liver / spleen took on 4X the volume of "normal" you would literally explode - not to mention becoming as portly as Orson Wells.  Not saying it hasnt enlarged - but that math doesnt jive.

Keep us posted here..... and I do imagine they have run a liver function panel??  It is important they get to the cause of the enlargement - and likely there are elevated enzyme markers too...
