Umbilical Hernia

I have cirrhosis and a umbilical hernia. Yesterday I noticed the area around the hernia was white and so I was concerned and went to see my doctor. He said then hernia is cutting off blood flow to the area and that surgery is needed. My gastrologist has decided not to operate on the hernia due to risk of infection and my platelet count is 69. He thought it would be much to dangerous. There is also some slight discoloration in the hernia itself since. As far as size its about the diameter of a quarter. I've read that it is a simple procedure but how concerned should I be about my platelet count and risk of infection? Also maybe some tips on what to watch for after the procedure? Thanks for any advice.
