end stage liver disease, hep c and carcinoma

hi all, im really having a tough time right now and really need some help...
i had a call from my aunt last week who told me that my dad was seriously ill in hospital, he is 52 with hep c, cirrosis (cirrhosis) and a carcinoma, i have been told that he is his last stage of the liver disease and not sure what that means.
i have been called down to the hospital twice now, tonight his breathing wasnt good and he had fallen in the toilets. my dad looks jaundice in his eyes and his skin looks torn open in places the bruises are horrific, laast week he had fluid on the brain and his ascites had got worse, he doesnt eat and he was coughing up blood last night about 70 ml. its truly heart breaking watching him go like this, he is addicted to alcohol and opiate pain killers, they have said a blood transfusion wont do any good.. how long does the end stage last please? im so worried whats going to happen, my dad has lost everyone over the years due to his addictions and seems to be so alone, he is like a skeleton with a pop belly. i really dont like seeing him suffer like this, its horrible, please what happens when your body shuts down, what should i look for. When my dad was last discharged he went home and didnt take the lactulose nor any of water tablets just opiate pain killers and im not sure what that means either.
im so confused feel and slighty angry. just wish i could get some straight answers.

I was looking on this forum because my ex-husband has liver cancer and I was trying to find information for my daughter. My heart goes out to you! May you find the strength and courage to perservere through these trying times. I hope that you will take my advice to see a grief counselor or another group that can help you let your frustrations and fears out. Either way I will pray for you. Kathy
