Hey spf647, I had a cat scan on my bladder and kidneys in Feb of 2008. Small liver lesion  1.7 cm was noticed on my liver.  Was told probably nothing and to get it checked in 6 months. Well follow-up cat scan showed 3 or 4 lesions in right lobe. Had a biopsy and it came back hemangiomas (benign clumps of blood vessels). Was sent to liver doctor and had a MRI. Got a call that said MRI didn't jive with hemangiomas. But showed 6 or 7 lesions in both lobes. Doc said maybe first biopsy was just blood off the top of lesion and I needed another. In  the meantime I had all kinds of tests because they thought I had metastatic liver cancer. Passed all tests with flying colors (had no symptoms at all during all this). Second biopsy was done by radiologist that told me That he could clearly see that what I had was hemangiomas. Said he saw my previous cat scans and MRI and said I had 7 hemangiomas all along and there had been no change in size the whole time. He said they don't like to do biopsies on hemangiomas because of excessive bleeding potential since hemangiomas are nothing but clusters of blood vessels. So for 2 months I was worried about cancer. My case was unusual because lot of times multiple lesions lean more toward cancer. Had follow up MRI December 30, 2008 and was told there was still no change since Feb 08 and no more follow-up needed. I just can't take hormone replacement therapy anymore because it is believed that they can make hemangiomas grow larger and that can cause problems if they get large.
Sorry for such a long story, but I wanted you to know one of the possibilities it could be. Mine were discovered incidentally whie having a cat scan for something else.  Luckily, hemangiomas don't turn cancerous. They are only a problem if they become giant and rarely they can rupture. Best wishes for a timely resolve. I hope it doesn't take as long for you to get answers as it did me.

I have a 3mm on my liver lobe... found it when I went for CT. Scan for gyno issues, poss. diverticulitis... well, I have uterine fibroids, which I new.. a cyst on my ovary, that gyno. was not concerned w/ and a 3mm that showed on liver lobe. I freaked! Took the Ct. to my gastro. I went to one w/  bloodwork from a virus make enzymes go wacky.. they are fine now.. gastro. had me do a AFP which I had in June.. so, in April, had another, was a 2..... he was not worried, but radiologist wanted a repeat of liver in 3 months. I am ok, but nervous when I think of it. Used to socially drink alot w/ hubby for a few years.. and a couple at night... since June, not much.. weekends.. if that.... still unnerving. My ultrasound last year did not show anything.  The Ct. did not show enlarged liver or anything else.  I just wish I could relax!
Go for CT this month... not scheduled yet..... hate this! Afraid to have a glass of wine, and 'grow' the lesion.....
