itching and the liver

I was told by my GP that I had elevated liver enzymes. Could this cause excessive itching? I itch all over. Mostly on my legs, around my ankles and on my arms. Some days it seems worse then other days. I have woke up from a sound sleep with terrible itching at times. Any suggestions?

YES and I have so been there. I believe I was told by my hepatologist it was caused by elevated Bilirubin, often associated with liver disease. I finally got mine solved after about a month and my doctor actually did give me something at the end because I was so desperate I was tearing my legs up to a bloody pulp. It's a nasty powder you mix into a drink. I tried it twice but ended up not needing it since I got it so late. It's called Questran Light.

I hope your doctor is following up with you on your liver tests!
