This assay is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), specifically Crohn's disease. It is designed for the detection and quantitation of IgG anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies in human serum.
It can also be used to aid in the diagnosis of Celiac disease. IBD, Crohns, and Celiac all produce elevated levels of IgA and IgG in the blood. What your levels indicate would have to be decided by doing other types of exams to determine if you have Crohns or another IBD or if you have Celiac Disease. If you have a Celtic family heritage (Irish, High Scottish, or Scandinavian) you have a higher risk for Celiac. Your doctor may not want to test you for this but if your family background falls into those categories I strongly suggest it. Celiac is one of the most under diagnosed GI disorders in this country compared to the rate of diagnosis in Europe considering the strong European (Celtic) heritage of most Americans.
