liver disorders

I had a blood test done for insurance purposes and I was declined because by liver panel was elevated, AST=58; ALT=37; GGT=100.  I take lipitor and I took a comtrex ( I have a cold) the night before I took the test.  Could the lipitor or comtrex have something to do with elevated results?

Lipitor, like a lot of statins, can cause elevated liver enzymes. I don't know about the cold medicine but I'd suspect Lipitor first. I believe the proper protocol is for doctors to check liver enzymes before starting a patient on a statin drug and then checking again in a couple of weeks because liver enzyme elevation is not an uncommon side effect of these drugs.
Since Comtrex contains acetaminophen I guess it is possible that it could raise enzymes depending on dose. I doubt that is a problem though.
I'd check with your doctor. If Lipitor is the problem usually once the drug is stopped the enzymes return to normal. There are alternatives to Lipitor that you might take instead.
Good luck,
Mike
