mono and enlarged liver in 58 yr old woman

I started out with a severe aching body and severe sweats and chills. I was told I had a viral flu.. After a week of sleeping most of the time, I went back to work and could hardly function. Went back to Doc. on Monday and was told to get more excerise. She did do blood work and EKG. I dragged myself to work and on the following Thursday was called and told to go home and rest, that I had mono. This is the 3rd week, and I am not eating because I have so much pressure on my rib area and am only comfortable when lying down. When I sit up for any length of time, I can hardly breath after a while. Walking very far is impossible. Today I was sent to specialist who ordered more blood work and a CT scan of my abdoman area. Everything I read says mono is rare in a woman my age.  I have no other mono symptoms, ( swollen glands or anything). I am also itching constantly. Can this really be mono without any of the other symptoms?
