multiple liver hemangiomas

multiple liver hemangiomas

I had a cat scan on my kidneys and bladder in February 2008. Turned out ok but liver spot was noticed incidentally. Follow up cat scan suggested in 6 months. Follow up scan in Sept. 2008 showed 3 or 4 lesions in right lobe, all less than 2 cm. Had chest to pelvis scan immediately. Needed biopsy. Got my own results of scans. Said worrisome for metastatic disease. Biopsy of largest lesion came back hemangioma. Got sent to liver doctor to check out other lesions. Had MRI on Sept 29, 2008. Showed 6 or 7 lesions in both lobes. Was told MRI did not jive with hemangiomas. Still worrisome for metastatic cancer. Passed colonoscopy, endoscopy, blood tests. Had already had pap smear and mammogram in March of 2008. Had started prempro in March of 2008, but was told to stop in case tumours could enlarge from taking hormones. Had second biopsy. Radiologist said he could tell from scans and MRI that my lesions were clearly hemangiomas. Ultrasound guy agreed ( This was during biopsy). Said he would only biopsy one more lesion because of bleeding risk. Doctor told me that he felt like I have hemangiomas and would need periodic checkups to monitor. He said after much consultation with several radiologists that he was comfortable with that diagnosis. He said one of the radiologists said he could see all 7 hemangiomas in original cat scan done in February and there was no change in size. All that anguish and all the medical bills! But thank God they say it's not cancer!
My question is: Should I still be concerned about the other lesions? Could any of the others be cancer?  Why was this such a difficult diagnosis to make? Could the shape of the lesions be atypical? I have had no symptoms whatsoever and I feel great! Will miss the hormone pills because they made me feel wonderful. I have lost 53 pounds since March, but that is because of hard work and changing my diet to eating healthy and drinking only water all the time. At first my liver doctor thought that was a symptom until I cleared that up! Do I need to be careful of certain medicines to keep hemangiomas from ever growing? How often should I have followup imaging? Sorry for so many questions, but have been through a lot. I'm still a little worried about my liver. I have no medical issues other than taking Enablex for gotta go problem sometimes. Thank you
