yellow tongue...very thirsty

Hello....I have been diagnosed with cirrhosis....my liver is compensated.  I have mild symptoms like nausea and fatigue. But lately I am extremely thirsty and my tongue is yellow.  My eyes are white - no yellowing.  I hate to bother my Dr for every little thing....but is this an indication of jaundice?

Any experience would be helpful

Thanks

Here is a page that I think can be very benifical for your situation. I would like to point out to you this paticular section as I think it will help explain many of your symptoms. At this point I'm wondering how much of what your going through is actually caused from cirrhosis but rather brought on by anemia.

Here is the excerpt and link:

Serious liver diseases include hepatitis and cirrhosis. Certain blood disorders, such as hemolytic anemia, can also cause jaundice because of the abnormal destruction of red blood cells and increase in bilirubin. Jaundice in children and adults is treated by diagnosing and treating the underlying cause.

Thanks for the insight and the advice.  I was diagnosed this past spring.  My labs were good...although I didn't get copies, and I will now....and I have met with a nutritiounist and am taking vitamins and supplements.  I meet with my gastro Dr again in a couple weeks...he said we will do tests every 4 months.  I mainly have fatigue, get run down easily, nausea and anemia....but the daily fevers are new.  I have read this can be associated with cirrhosis ....have you found this to be true? Should I call my Dr and try to move up the appt? I guess this is still new to me and I haven't found the balance in normal not feeling well and what could be a new symptom and signal a change in my liver.

Congradulations on your weight loss! So I can probably assume the cause of your cirrhosis was initially due to a fatty liver. Now that you have been conquering the cause (weight loss) you are surely on the right track and I imagine your liver has already began to heal. I wouldnt imagine what more you can possibly be doing to help. Maintain a healthy diet as im sure you are. Foods that are high in antioxidents will be very good for helping with the detox. You might mention to your doctor about taking a multivitamin due to your foods will be passing through you system at a quicker rate so there will be less time for your body to absorb the nutrients it needs.

As your liver heals more and more your bilirubin level should begin to decrease cause the jaundice to take care of itself. I imagin your due for another lab test in 3 months where you should be seeing a significant change.

Since you are now diagnosed it's a good idea to become as familar with your disease as much as possible. This will allow you to better communicate with your doctor reguarding cirrhosis and also teach you how to care for yourself to better ensure survival. Please don't misunderstand though, people with cirrhosis live for many years depending on at what point they are diagnosed and how well they care for themselves. Every little thing you do adds up to be a lot. (good or bad)

With each test you have done and mainly your blood lab ask your doctor for a copy of the results when he/she has finished discussing them with you. It is normally free of charge. Bring the copy home and place it in a folder. After the next lab test compare the two and it will tell you what areas are need for improvement. I find it to be challenging to see how much I can make an impact in the right areas. If you need any help understanding the results I will be glad to help explain them to you. You doing great, Keep up your strong assertive efforts! God bless you and your family.

Thanks for responding ...I really appreciate it.  I was diagnosed after losing 100lbs and being sober 2 yrs....so it was a combo of things I ingested in excess.  I am taking very good care of myself and being very vigilant.  I have also started running a low grade fever every afternoon.

Here is what I found about your tongue being yellow.

In the Asian medicine Jaundice is splitted in two types, the Yin Jaundice and the Yang Jaundice. The first one is mainly characterized by the whole body being colored in a vivid yellow, thirst, coloring of the tongue (yellow). The second, the Yin jaundice turns the face, the eyes, and the skin slightly grey. Yin jaundice produces low fever, nausea, no appetite and palpitations.

Since you are in the early stages of cirrhosis and your recently diagnosed you have to allow your liver time to heal. Do you mind me asking the cause of your cirrhosis? It's critical to your survival that what has caused the cirrhosis is controlled. This will allow your liver to heal. For now drink pleanty of water (8-10 16oz bottles) daily, it will help rid your body of the toxins your liver has failed to remove.
