Beta Blockers for liver transplant patients

WHy would my doctor want to start me on beta blockers? I am a liver transplant patient waitng for a second liver transplnt since the first organ myseriously developed psclerosing cholangitis six monhts after my first surgery in Dec. 2003. I have basically never recovered and always feel weak with a ot of pain at the site of the new liver which has always been inflamed

I am not an MD, but I would *assume* the use of a beta blocker would be to minimize the effects of portal hypertension and or variceal bleeding potential.
