LIVER TRANSPLANT EXPERT FORUM
Couple of questions

Couple of questions

Met with the head of the transplant team the other day.  He wanted to go ahead and get me on the list.  MELD is 11 but he believes I have HCC based on an MRI showing one or two lesions/tumors.  Also AFP is 125 which I'm told is high.  I'm getting a embolism and RFA in the next couple of weeks to treat the tumor.

The doctor said MELD would go to 22 based on an HCC diagnosis then to 29 if a liver donor wasn't found in 90 days.  He says this would put me high on the list and the 22 rating would result in about a 85 to 90% chance of getting a liver in 90 days.  Does all that sound reasonable to you based on your experience?

Also he said since my blood type is rarer (B+) that I'd have an even higher chance of getting a donor.  How does a rarer blood type increase the chance?  Should there be fewer available with a rare blood type?
