I am an Asian female of 57 years old. I have had chronic HBV for more than 10 years now. My latest blood test results done in July 2011 were: AST:34, ALT:31 and viral load of 2.74 X 10000 or 10 to the 4th power. I am H BeAg negative.
I have been taking milk thistle and phospatidyl choline for liver support.
Do I need to start treatment given the above results?
Thank you very much for your anticipated insights.
absolutely you should begin treatment with this viral load. there is a good chance you may have had the virus a lot longer than 10 years and that you have scarring in the liver despite the normal liver tests. I would recommend checking a HBV genotype as some genotypes such as C are more associated with the development of liver cancer and decompensated liver disease.
