Laparoscopic unroofing of simple liver cyst

Ive been diagnosed with a large (11 cm) simple hepatic cyst that recent bleed (which caused great pain). I am scheduled to meet with a liver surgeon next week to discuss treatment options and I've done enough research to ask a good number of questions.

One thing that I've seen conflicting information about is the likely hospital stay duration if the cyst can be unroofed laparoscopically.  Most literature says 'overnight' but some of the studies I've read suggest 4+ days!  Which is closer to the truth?

Thanks!

Had surgery today by a fantastic liver surgeon here in Houston. The cyst, located on the left lobe, was huge!  The doctor estimated that 2 - 3 liters of fluid were drained from it. Because of the location of the cyst he was able to remove the entire roof and ablated the remainder. My prognosis is 'excellent'.

Thanks so much for your expert opinion Dr Schiano!

i do not know Dr. Wood personally.  If you are otherwise healthy the procedure should be uneventful.  the greater issue is whether the cyst will recur despite the unroofing; usually it should undergo sclerosis in addition to the unroofing.

Thanks for the reply Dr. Shiano.

I will be consulting with Dr. Patrick Wood in Houston this coming week. Are you familiar with him?  In the hands of a very experienced surgeon is the procedure unlikely to have complications?  It is worth noting that I am an otherwise healthy adult in my 40's.

Thanks again!

probably somewhere in between.  i do not think that it would be an overnight stay.
