Liver/Spleen Scan

Liver/Spleen Scan

This is the results of a liver /spleen scan that was ordered to follow up a liver ultrasound that suggest micronodular cirrhosis.

History: Fatty liver

There is mild enlargement of the left lobe of the liver. There is mild splenomegaly.
Uptake in the spleen is mildly increased as it approximates that of the liver on the posterior view.
No abnormal shift of (RA ) activity of the bone marrow is noted. No focal decrease in activity is noted
in the liver or spleen. Curvilinear increase in activity in the superior aspect of the liver of the liver on the
(RAO ) view and right lateral view is most probably related to artifact. Hepatic uptake is resonably
  homogenous.

  Impression:

MILD ENLARGEMENT OF THE LEFT LOBE OF THE LIVER.
   MILD SPLENOMAGALY.
MILD INCREASE IN UPTAKE IN SPLEEN MAY BE RELATED TO INCREASE IN SIZE AND/OR MILD
   DECREASE IN HEPATIC PARENCHYMAL FUNCTION.
   RECOMMEND CORRELATION WITH LABORTORY.
NO FOCAL DECREASE IN ACTIVITY IS NOTED TO SUGGEST A SPACE OCCUPYING LESION IN
   LIVER OR SPLEEN.

MY GI HAS NOT ORDERED A CT OR BIOPSY YET. HE  SAYS MY LABS  ARE GOOD. ANY
THOUGHTS ON LIVER /SPLEEN SCAN RESULT? IS THIS CIRRHOSIS ? ULTRASOUND SUGGEST
    MICRONODULAR CIRRHOSIS.

we rarely use liver-spleen scans anymore.  the findings suggest that cirrhosis could be present but these are very nonspecific findings.  definitely you should have a dual phase contrast CT scan of the liver.
