Liver transplant with previous alcohol use

The center in which my sister-in-law is being treated for advanced liver failure has told us that because she used alcohol, it could have caused the damage and they will not consider her for a transplant. There are numerous other probable contributing factors, but we don't have the time to debate the issue with the center.

We understand that approximately 15% of liver transplant facilities do not require a 6 month alcohol abstention period in order to qualify for transplant. Is there a resource that lists those facilities?

unfortunately i am not aware of any resource that lists these centers.  i think most centers would consider this, assuming that there are other positive factors that would mitigate against recidivism.  some length of abstinence is required however by all centers.  you may need to consult other centers in your UNOS region.
