Low Salt Diet Post Liver Transplant

Why is low salt diet is recommended for post transplant recipients.  I thought by having a new liver there should be no restrictions on salt.

hypertension is a common problem post-liver transplantation and a diet rich in sodium can definitely exacerbate  and contribute to this.

Thanks Dr Schiano,  I am taking Amlodipine for hypertension as part of post surgery medication. Can I occasionally indulge in a relatively high sodium meal?  You can tell I am a salt lover.

maintaining one's quality of life is an important goal of transplantation--use common sense.  There is no problem with having a pepperoni pizza every now and then.
