Sphincter of oddi dysfunction

Sphincter of oddi dysfunction

I had a laproscopic cholesectomy in January 2011,due to a dysfunctional gallbladder, which took 2 years, many er visits, and doctor visits to figure out. Long story short, after a few post-op surgery appointments and excruciating RUQ pain my surgeon believed I had SOD. I had an ERCP performed in February of 2011, which I did have a sphincterotomy also done, however my doctor could not cut my sphincter as much as he would have liked to because I had a duodenal diverticulum. Unfortunately, I ended up with severe acute pancreatitis, and hardly any relief from the procedure. I have tried over 12 medications: amitryptyline, noritryptline, bentyl, levisin, nitro patch, nitroglycerin, toprol xl, wellbutrin xl, neurontin just to name a few. I have consistent RUQ pain that gets worse when trying to eat. I am nauseas almost every day which I take zofran for most of the time that works. Some days after eating I vomit, or have dirreah. I have lost 30 lbs since my surgery I am 5'8 and 125 lbs. I have no medical history except for hypothyriodism, and occasionally anemia.  I just wanted a professional's advice, I need my life back I am only 25. Thank you.

this is definitely not SOD.  i wonder if you could also have an element of chronic pancreatitis--ask your GI if you need to have an EUS performed.ask the surgeon whether you had gallstones in the gallbladder as rarely people can have abdominal vasculitis that causes belly pain.  the gallbladder specimen might have vasculitis in it and it would be acalculous cholecystitis.  Good luck.

Thank you for your response doctor, it is truly appreciated. I am in the process of looking for a new doctor because medication seems to be the only answer he has. I had no stones only a dysfunctional gallbladder. The pathology report says I had multiple areas with red-brown hemmorage. And the gallbladder contained a slight amount of mucoid, red-brown bile and no calculi. Thank yOu again.
