Why do organs start shutting down?

by marielystp, Nov 01, 2009 06:00PM
My father has been an alcoholic for over 30 years.  About two weeks he was hospitalized for severe internal bleeding.  He has esophageal varices and his liver is severely damaged.  I have not been to any of his dr.'s visits and I am not getting clear answers from him as to what exactly is going on with his body.  He went to the hospital again this morning because he had a sharp pain in his abdomen and it turns out it was his pancreas (swelling)...I'd like to know what the order of events is and if this is the beginning of the end.  Are his organs shutting down one by one?  My father's insurance is through a medical group that is notorious for diagnosing too late, or not treating serious medical issues quickly/accurately.
