Dear doctor, i am having enlarged cyst on my liver.  It is slightly pushing my kidney. And i have swelling on my abdomen.  Little pain is there.   Is surgery is the only option?

i do not think waiting will compromise your health.  unroofing may not help future recurrences.

a resection should permanantly get rid of the cysts; with fenestration it could come back.

if a benign simple cyst is causing symptoms it can definitely be treated with surgical removal or surgical fenestration and cautery being the best options.

Thank you doctor. My surgery is postponed to next week due to unavailability of chief surgeons.  I want to know, will this postponding affect my health?

3 years back i had undergone  a lap. de-roofing of simple hepatic cyst.  22/7/10 CTscan of abdomen(plain & contrast) shows-large cyst with multiple septations around periphery lateral measuring 13.27 x 10.4 cm.  the cyst arising inferior surface of the liver extends down to iliac level.  Another side measurement from anterior abdomen wall to posterior measuring 16x13 cm. Kidney pushed posteriorly and superiorly.

And 3/8/10 USG scan shows cyst 14.02x10.91 and Rt kidney measure 10x5.1cms & Lt kidney 10x4.3.
AFP test and other routine tests are normal.  Now i am taking Albentazole 400mg twice a day along with one becousil.
