treatment

My husband is a post transplant patient and is a nonresponder to interferon/riba treatment. He was in treatment for 18 months before they took him off. Is it true they won't retreat until his viral load is over 5 million. His viral load is now 3 million. His doctor says the body can handle up to 5 million on its own. I would like to know your experience with this, Thank you, Ruth

there really is no viral load cutoff to decide upon whether treatment is warranted.  the biopsy findings and stage of fibrosis are the bottom line.  if the firbosis is not more than stage 2 i would hold off on retreatment.
