upper abdominal pain behind the ribs for 2 yrs

I am writing because my husband has been living with  pain the upper right side of his abdomen, behind his ribs  for 2 1/2 years now.  He's had a CBC, MRI, ultrasound, catscan, endoscopy and colonscopy and everything comes back normal.  The GI said it's IBS.   We don't want to stop here for fear that it could be something in the liver or gallbladder.  The pain is always with him, just at some times it hurts "more" or it "throbs" or feels like a stab.   It feels better when he lies down.  He says it feels like there's a sore or leison on his liver.  I don't understand how that can be felt, but that's how he describes it.  I've been reading other posts here and I was wondering if maybe he should have a liver panel, check for hep c, check his pancreas, liver and gallbladder. I just don't know what else to do for him.  This is taking a toll on me emotionally. At today's colonoscopy, I was certain we'd have an answer to what is causing his pain.  But nothing.  I am back to square 1.  The MRI and CATSCAN's are now a year old.  The ultrasound is recent.   We are worried that there could be liver disease and having the pain for 2 years now, we are increasingly worried that it could be something bad.   We have insurance, but even with that, the bills are high for us. Any advice? Any advice on what type of dr. to see next and what tests to have done?

Thank you,
Loly

i think seeing another GI would be the way to go.  Some people have chronic abdominal pain that is enigmatic in etiology.  I am happy to see all of tests OK so far.  A repeat scan such as an MRCP and liver tests might be warranted.
