6 mm lung nodule

6 mm lung nodule

I had a chest ct while in the hospital in January 09 for another issue.  They found a nodule in my lower right lobe that was measured at 5-6 mm. Told me not to worry, follow up again in 3 months.  Just did, report said it is 6 mm, still telling me not to worry.  Different radiologist, different calibration on the ct etc. not enought of a difference to be concerned about, wait and rescan again in 3 more months.  I am concerned.  Is there anything more I should do, they say it is too small to biopsy.

I have a CT report that shows I have a 7mm growth in my right lung since 2007, and in 2009 the medical report states there has been no change in the growth. Could this be lung cancer?

Sounds to me like you are worrying too much. Both those CT scans are 99% likely to have been showing a nodule of exactly the same size. However, 3 monthly CT Scans are TOO FREQUENT. 6 monthly for two years post-first scan, then annually thereafter if no change seen is more normal. CT Scans actually involve a HUGE amount of radiation and there is no benefit to having them more frequently than necessary.

If there has been no change in the last two years then instead of worrying you should be counting yourself lucky so far. If it *was* cancer it generally would have grown..
It is normal good practice to repeat the CT Scans every 6 months for two years are the nodule was first sighted, then if no change annually thereafter.
Just make sure you are a non-smoker, follow a healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle and get on with your life.
Have another CT Scan 12 month after the last. Only if the nodule size has grown will you get different advice.

Good luck
