My father in law was just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer,Is there any chance of chemotherapy even working ?
I talked to a friend today and she said the chemo made her sister so sick that she gave up in 3 months. The doctors gave my father in law 8-12 months the same as my friends sister .So should we stop the chemo and let him live a happy life ?
Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your father in law's condition. I just want to let you know that there is a chance, but the possibility varies from person to person. It really depends on his age, general health, type of lung cancer, type of chemo and most importantly, his attitude and his faith.
My mom was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer, when it was discovered it was already in the 4th stage. The doctors said she had 6 months to live...she survived for 4 years! ( She went through chemo, then Iressa pills, then different chemo again). She passed away when she was 61.. (about 2 months ago)
It's a very personal and sensitive choice (whether to stop chemo or not) and the side effects are pretty bad but it's very possible that chemo will prolong your father in law's life. It's also possible that it won't and that it will just make him weaker. So to answer your question... there is a chance.

My mother was a fighter and I know that she lasted as long as she did because of her positive attitude, her strong faith and the love and support from her family.

Stay strong, and give him all the love and support he needs.
