Burping with Lung Cancer?

by bbcat417, Jun 07, 2007 03:17PM
My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer about 1 month ago and it has spread to the brain and adrenal gland.  She is having radiation on the brain.  Lately she has had nausea and burping... she is having a hard time eating.  We do have an appt with the doctor scheduled, but I am just curious if anyone has heard of this?

I'm sorry about your mom's diagnosis.  I think burping is fairly common with nausea.  If she has a tumor close to the esophagus and/or trouble swallowing that could cause burping as well.

Maybe she could ask her Dr  to prescribe something for the nausea and that should also help with the burping.

Thank you for your response.  I did speak with the doc today.  He prescribed prilosec and reglan (sp?) along with maloxx.  I am hoping this will help her discomfort.  She hasn't been eating and I know she needs to in order to keep her strength up.  That is the one thing the docs have really stressed.  I just want her to be strong and fight.  Thanks again.

hiccups are also a common side effect of lung cancer. There is medication for hiccups also..my husband had them for 3 days. Over weekend of course.

Hi.  My mom hand lung cancer as well.  She had a lot of problems eating due to the radiation right over her esophagus.  I found cold items like yogurt or ice cream helped a lot.  Smoothies are a great way to pack in calories and vitamins and it goes down easily.  We also got some Ensure, high protein and weight gain both.  Good luck to all of you!
