Ferritin Level after Surgery

by snowingtime, Jul 25, 2008 09:22AM

My dad was diagnosed lung cancer (Adenocarcinoma, Stage IB)  two months ago and he had surgery immediately. Recentaly he had a blood examination and the results are:

CEA 3.07
AFP 9.22
FERRITIN 445

My question is: the Ferritin level seems higher than normal, is it an indication of cancer metastasis? Your kind help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Hi,

There is no clear method using blood tests to monitor for cancer recurrence for lung cancer after surgery. Discuss these blood tests with your doctor, some of the items like the Ferritin may have been performed for other reasons. Some patients would prefer to do some monitoring even if the tests involved are not proven to change overall outcomes, others may only get more anxiety than reassurance.
