Large Mass taking up entire left lung....

My husband, age 38, has been coughing and short of breath for about 2 months.  Lethargic and no appetite.  He's lost 25lbs.  Went for a consultation today with thoracic surgeon.  His CT scan showed a huge mass taking up almost his entire left lung.  There are some small white spots, probably calcium deposits she said, in the mass itself.  It is so large it is shifting everything else over to the right side or his chest.  A needle biopsy is scheduled for Monday of next week.  How could this have grown so fast, and what is the chance it is not cancer?
