Possible lung cancer....

Hi All

Quite by chance, a shadow was found on a chest xray in November last year. My GP decided to follow this up with further xrays, which showed the same. I was then refered to a Specialist who sent me for a batch of bloods and yet another chest xray. As there was no change, and the bloods apparently normal, a CT with contrast was done. The original worrying shadow turned out to be 'nothing' (Possibly a shadow from my breast implant) but another 'lesion' was seen and a biopsy ordered. Long story short....the biopsy did not pick up any cells, but caused me a collapsed lung...nightmare stuff....and a PET scan arranged. This showed that the area was lit up, but mainly on one side. I just want to add here, that my anxiety up to this point had been totally out of control and I was convinced that I was in very serious trouble. I lost my Dad to bowel cancer 6 years ago and this is about the only thing I know about cancer.
I was very pleased to here that the lit up area is isolated to one small spot, and the Consultant and her team feel that surgery would be the way to go, as if it is cancer, this would be the curative treatment. She spoke about 'wedge resection' with keyhole surgery.
My appointment is on 28th April with the Surgeon, and I am now begining to get scared again.
Has anyone been down this road and can possibly give me any words of wisdom?
Oh, I am a 45 year old female....ex-smoker, stopped when I was 29 but had 2 short relapses in between. Oh Boy, how I regret that!
